“Finding and Keeping a Job” (FAKJ) is an NDIS funding category that supports people with disability to prepare for, find, and maintain employment. It includes services such as job coaching, skills training, workplace mentoring, resume support, interview preparation, and on-the-job assistance.
While Open Ability delivers coaching and work readiness services aligned with FAKJ goals, NDIA-managed participants will need to check their eligibility for FAKJ funding with their Support Coordinator or Local Area Coordinator.
Services are person-centred and flexible. You can receive coaching either one-on-one or in small groups, in settings such as the community, during work experience activities, or in a structured learning environment.
Each coaching program is tailored to your individual goals and pace — whether you’re building confidence, improving communication skills, preparing for employment, or developing independent living skills.
No. If your NDIS plan is self-managed or plan-managed, you can choose to work with either registered or independent providers. Open Ability is an independent provider that follows the same person-centred quality and safeguarding standards as registered organisations, while offering flexible, tailored coaching and development services designed around your goals.
Open Ability works with participants aged 15 and above, including school leavers and adults who are seeking to develop work readiness and life skills.
Each coaching program is tailored to the individual’s goals, whether that’s preparing for employment, building independence, or exploring new opportunities.
Through coaching, you can develop a wide range of work readiness and personal development skills, including:
Interview and workplace communication skills
Social and teamwork skills
Confidence and motivation building
Resume and cover letter preparation
Time management and professional habits
Exploring work experience and volunteer roles
Finding and keeping a suitable job
Each coaching session is tailored to your goals, focusing on the skills that will help you become more independent and prepared for future opportunities.
Absolutely. Family members and carers can be involved in the coaching process, including planning sessions, goal setting, and progress reviews, always with the participant’s consent. Their involvement is valuable in helping to reinforce learning, ensure continuity, and build confidence both during and outside of sessions.
Appointments are billed according to the NDIS Price Guide under relevant Capacity Building categories, such as Work Readiness or Finding and Keeping a Job. Self-managed or plan-managed participants will receive invoices after each session or on an agreed schedule.
For NDIA-managed participants, once the invoice is received, it can be submitted through the NDIA portal by the participant or their plan manager for reimbursement.
For individuals without NDIS funding, fee-for-service appointments are available. These sessions are privately funded and can be paid directly by individuals, families, or organisations. NDIS funding is not required to access coaching and development services — anyone seeking support in work readiness, personal development, or life skills can book appointments on a private basis.
Yes. Appointments can include visits to workplaces, volunteering opportunities, or community-based learning. These experiences help you develop real-world confidence, teamwork, and independence in safe and supportive environments.
